Pillswood is a large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) located near Hull, Cottingham, that is one of Europe's biggest, able to store and supply clean energy to around 300,000 homes for two hours. Developed by Harmony Energy using Tesla technology, it was brought online in November 2022 to help balance the grid, manage renewable energy sources and ensure energy security.

Location: Pillswood BESS, Cottingham, Hull, HU16 5SB
Purpose: To store electricity from renewable sources and release it to the grid when demand is high.
Capacity: 98MW power capacity and 196MWh energy capacity
Developer: Harmony Energy
Technology: Uses Tesla Megapack systems, managed through their Autobidder platform.
Grid Connection: Connected to the National Grid's Creyke Beck substation, which will link to the Dogger Bank offshore wind farm.
Significance: It was the largest BESS in Europe upon its launch and remains one of the top-performing facilities in the UK, winning several awards for its contribution to the energy sector.
