Batsetswe (Bats) Motsumi FCInstCES served as President of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) from 2023 to 2024, championing the theme “Adding Value Through Collaboration”.

A CICES member for more than 20 years, Bats has helped shape and supported he institution through leadership and voluntary service.

As Commercial Director at Costain, Bats has delivered major UK infrastructure projects, including the A12 Chelmsford to A120 Widening Scheme and the A14 Improvement Project on the strategic 130-mile Rugby–Felixstowe route. He also contributed to Wakefield’s Castleford Lock Footbridge, a distinctive 150-metre S-shaped crossing over the River Aire.

Before becoming CICES President in September 2023, Bats served for several years on the Council of Management and held voluntary roles including Chair of the Yorkshire Regional Committee. He was re-elected to the Council in June 2026
