Title Description
Equity, diversity and inclusion policy

The Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES), established by royal charter, promotes civil engineering surveying for public benefit. Members are expected to act with integrity and uphold high professional standards, including ethical and legal responsibilities related to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). Although CICES has a diverse international membership, women remain underrepresented. The institution recognises its duty to reflect the society it serves and believes the industry benefits from greater diversity. All members, from students to fellows, are expected to respect and promote EDI in their professional conduct.

Rules of professional conduct

These rules are provided to govern the conduct of all members of the Institution to ensure that they are guided at all times to serve the best interests of the public, the profession and their clients and maintain high standards of practice and professional conduct.

Disciplinary regulations

Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors' disciplinary regulations – amended and approved by Council of Management 7 March 2024 in accordance with Bye-law 39 (c).

Artficial intelligence (AI) policy

CICES defines artificial intelligence (AI) as the ability of machines or software to perform tasks that would normally require human intelligence. AI systems can process data, learn from it and make decisions or predictions based on that data.

Wellbeing policy

As a professional body, CICES is committed to the protection and promotion of the wellbeing of all staff.  Wellbeing is just as important as physical health. Poor wellbeing may be detrimental to a person, as it can impact quality of life, productivity and collaboration. The commitment and participation of staff and members is essential to creating a supportive, responsive and productive working environment that benefits everyone.

Whistleblowing policy

Whistleblowing is the reporting of suspected wrongdoing or dangers in relation to our activities. This includes bribery, facilitation of tax evasion, fraud or other criminal activity, miscarriages of justice, health and safety risks, damage to the environment and any breach of legal or professional obligations.

Website acceptable use policy

This acceptable use policy governs how you may access and use this website and all associated web pages, which is provided by us free of charge.

Security awareness policy

Security can be defined as the state of relative freedom from threat or harm caused by deliberate, unwanted, hostile or malicious acts. These include acts of espionage, extortion, fraud, sabotage and terrorism. Good security requires civil engineering surveyors to be aware of their behaviour, both professionally and socially, as well as using procedures and technology appropriate to the sensitivity of the work being undertaken. Security minded behaviour should be adopted by members at all levels, from Student Member to Fellow.

Sustainability policy

As a professional body, CICES pledges to encourage and support sustainable development, whilst expecting its members to uphold standards that demonstrate their understanding of and action in the protection and enhancement of sustainability.

Supporting individuals with reasonable adjustments

We want to ensure that our people who have a disability are treated fairly and have access to the same opportunities as non-disabled colleagues. The Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) is an inclusive organisation with a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion for its current and potential members and staff.

Council of Management member obligations

‘The object for which the institution is established is to advance the science and art of civil engineering surveying in all aspects of the specialisations of geospatial engineering and commercial management within civil engineering for the benefit of the public, in particular but not exclusively by upholding and advancing the standards of education, competence, practice and conduct of members of the institution.’
