The 13th annual Tomorrow's Engineers Week takes place 10-14 November, organised by Engineering UK.

CICES demonstrates its commitment to education and the future of civil engineering surveying in numerous ways. Education has been central to our recent presidential themes, with immediate past president Alison Watson MBE championing "Make Space for Education" and current president Alex Pearsall focusing on "Shaping the Future of Construction."

This commitment was further exemplified in September with the appointment of Rachel Hames (pictured) to the newly created role of education outreach manager, a role designed to strengthen industry ties and engagement with schools, colleges and Universities.

Careers in surveying

As part of Tomorrow's Engineers Week, Rachel has written a blog for Engineering UK, in which she explains more about why surveying is the STEM career that underpins every single piece of infrastructure we rely on.

In the article, Rachel champions surveying as a career for young people who enjoy subjects including science, maths, geography or computing.

Rachel goes on to discuss the key differences between commercial quantity surveying and geospatial surveying, and the range of exciting projects you can get involved with as a civil engineering surveyor - from HS2 to hospital projects.
