Marek Suchocki has begun his term as the new president of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES), bringing more than 35 years of experience in engineering, infrastructure, and digital innovation.

A Fellow of the institution and a CICES member since 1998, Marek was elected to the role and officially assumed the presidency at the institution’s Annual General Meeting on 2 September 2026, succeeding Alex Pearsall.

His presidential theme for his 12-month tenure is Innovate, Integrate, Inspire, a theme that reflects principles Marek has strived to uphold and exhibit throughout his distinguished career to date.

Taking office at a pivotal time for the civil engineering surveying industry, Marek will focus on embracing emerging technologies and ways of working.  Another key focus will be strengthening collaboration both organisationally and technically across the sector and attracting new talent to address industry skills shortages.

 

Three decades of innovation, leadership and service

Marek has worked across infrastructure delivery, engineering consultancy, operations and technology, throughout a career spanning more than three decades.

This includes working for British Waterways on the canal network as an undergraduate to holding roles at Costain, University of Reading, Atkins, Mouchel, and Autodesk; his career has combined major project delivery, research and challenging the status quo with a passion for innovation and digital transformation.

Marek has also made a significant contribution to CICES, being part of the Geospatial Engineering Practices Committee for some ten years and since 2008, representing the institution in the British Standards B555 committee for construction design, modelling and data exchange.

As a member of CICES' Council of Management for several years, he has helped contribute to the future direction and policy of the institution.

 

He has supported the development of CICES' digital competencies, helping ensure the institution reflects the growing importance of digital skills and continues to serve on several CICES committees.
