New CICES guidance documents

The institution has introduced two new guidance documents. ‘Do you need a survey: A practical guide for UK clients’ highlights the benefits of using a professionally recognised geospatial firm.

Produced in collaboration with The Survey Association and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the guide is aimed at professionals such as engineers, architects, planners and other related professions to help cut through any confusion and support they need in making the correct choice when commissioning a geospatial survey.

The ‘Guidance Note: Survey Control Reports’ details the minimum expectations for survey control reports to enable members of CICES to produce a standard deliverable. The aim is to produce a base level which can apply across all industries rather than be a sector specific guide. The report should be understandable and clear to all stakeholders and is split into the following sections; relevance of survey control; main report requirements; appendices and attachments and relevant standards.

The guidance note was produced by a working group from the institution’s Geospatial Engineering Practices Committee consisting of Mark Lawton (Skanska – GEPC chair), Jim Turner (HS2), Thomas Wren (TfL) and Matt Levine (BAM Nuttall – Transpennine Route Upgrade Alliance). Both are available for download at cices.org/publications
