CICES honorary secretary and BAM principal planning engineer Adam Holmes has been awarded the President's Medal at the CICES annual dinner 2026, in recognition of his dedicated voluntary service to the institution.

The CICES President’s Medal can be awarded annually to a member whose contribution and dedication to institution affairs, over a considerable period, has been a significant factor in furthering the institution’s objectives and enhancing its reputation within the industry and to the wider public.

Speaking about being awarded the 2026 President’s Medal, Adam (pictured with his award) said:

“It is incredibly rewarding to be awarded the Medal. The role of Honorary Secretary is largely a voluntary, behind-the-scenes position, so to be recognised in this way is both humbling and gratifying. I am proud to have contributed to the institution and honoured to receive such prestigious recognition from my peers.

“Volunteering for CICES has provided opportunities to experience and learn about a wide range of subjects that fall outside my day-to-day role.”

Adam first joined BAM as an Apprentice Engineer in 2001 and quickly progressed through the engineering pathway to the role of Agent. In 2013 he took a secondment into Planning as part of a continuous professional development objective to broaden his commercial knowledge and understanding of project delivery.

Adam became a CICES member in 2017, shortly after completing a Diploma in Construction Adjudication with CIArb.

A Fellow of the institution, he started volunteering as an examiner to support his colleagues within BAM on their membership journeys while also giving something back to the profession.

In 2021, he volunteered for the role of honorary secretary of the institution after completing a diploma in Law and was successfully appointed.

His commitment to both the institution and the profession has made him a well-respected figure among members and colleagues alike.

Immediate past-president Alex Pearsall said of Adam:

“Adam has shown exceptional dedication to CICES through his five years of service as honorary secretary. His commitment, professionalism and willingness to give his time voluntarily have made a significant contribution to the institution and its governance. I am delighted to see Adam recognised with the President's Medal, a thoroughly deserved honour.

On behalf of the institution, I would also like to thank him and his employers for his continued service and the invaluable role he plays in supporting CICES and its members.”
