Eligibility

Open to all CICES Members and Fellows, regardless of academic background.


How to Apply

  1. Download the Guidebook

  2. Download the UK-SPEC Document – Available from the Engineering Council: www.engc.org.uk

  3. Submit the Expression of Interest Form – Found on the CICES website.

  4. The CICES Membership Department will:

    • Advise on the next steps

    • Manage fee payments

    • Allocate a mentor

    • Answer questions throughout the process


What is Involved?

Initial

  • Stage 1 application form

  • Stage 1 application fee


Stage 1 Submission

  • One-page CV

  • 500-word synopsis of the proposed Individual Report

  • Competence and commitment statements (approx. 2,500 words)

  • 3 years of CPD records

  • Mentor details and credentials (allocated by CICES or self-sourced)

Note: Feedback may require reworking or changing the Individual Report synopsis.


Stage 2 Submission

  • Stage 2 application form

  • Stage 2 application fee

  • Individual Report (3,000–8,000 words, excluding references and appendices)

  • Authentication form

  • Updated CPD records

  • Personal Report (approx. 2,000 words)

  • Sponsor questionnaires

These documents are reviewed for completeness and then assessed for readiness for interview.


Stage 3 – Review Interviews

Academic Review

  • Covers Competence & Commitment Standards A and B

  • Must show underpinning knowledge equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree

  • 90-minute interview, including a 30-minute presentation

Professional Review

  • Covers Competence & Commitment Standards C, D, and E

  • Up to 60-minute interview, no presentation required


The Outcome

  • The Engineering Council makes the final award decision.

  • The result is either successful or unsuccessful.

  • No deferrals or partial awards are offered.

  • Unsuccessful applicants may resit the Professional Review.


Accelerated Routes

Applicants with:

  • Exemplifying qualifications

  • Or eligibility under the EU Professional Qualifications and Services (EU Exit) Regulations 2020
    may apply via an accelerated route.
