Engineering Technician (EngTech) Registration

Engineering Technician (EngTech) is a professional designation recognised globally. It is available to practitioners across all engineering disciplines and confirms a solid level of practical competence and professional commitment.


Eligibility

Open to any CICES Technical Member, Member, or Fellow who can demonstrate sufficient experience to meet the Engineering Council’s EngTech competencies.


How to Apply

  • Download the EngTech registration guidebook

  • Download the UK-SPEC document from the Engineering Council: www.engc.org.uk

  • Complete the Expression of Interest form

  • The CICES Membership Department (as Engineering Council registration qualifications manager) will:

    • Advise on the next steps

    • Provide payment information

    • Allocate a mentor

    • Answer any process-related questions


What is Involved?

Applicants must prepare and submit the following documentation:

  • Application form

  • Application fee

  • Competence and commitment statements (approx. 1,500 words)

  • Two-page CV

  • Three years of CPD (Continuing Professional Development) records

  • Experience report (approx. 2,000 words)

  • Two sponsor questionnaires

All submissions are assessed for completeness and then reviewed for progression to the interview stage.


Professional Review Interview

  • Interview assesses candidates against the UK-SPEC EngTech competencies

  • Interview duration: Up to 30 minutes

  • Includes a 5-minute presentation by the applicant

  • An additional 5–10 minutes may be required if the applicant does not have the benchmark educational base
    (This additional part focuses on demonstrating knowledge of science, engineering, and maths relevant to competencies A and B)


The Outcome

  • Successful candidates are awarded Engineering Technician registration by the Engineering Council

  • Outcomes are binary: successful or not successful

  • There are no deferrals, referrals, or alternative outcomes

  • Candidates who are not successful may resit the Professional Review
