Open to any CICES Member or Fellow, regardless of prior academic qualifications.

Complete the Expression of Interest form on the CICES website and submit it.

The CICES Membership Department (as Engineering Council registration qualifications manager) will:

Advise on the formal application process

Arrange payment of fees
-
Allocate a mentor
-
Answer any questions throughout the process

What is Involved?
Initial:
-
Stage 1 application form
-
Stage 1 application fee
Stage 1 Submission:

One-page CV
-
500-word synopsis of the proposed Individual Report
-
Competence and commitment statements (approx. 2,500 words)
-
Three years of CPD (Continuing Professional Development) records
-
Details and credentials of a mentor (allocated by CICES or sourced through employer/network)
Feedback may be given on the synopsis. It may require restructuring or a new topic before progressing.
Stage 2 Submission:

Stage 2 application form
-
Stage 2 application fee
-
Individual Report (5,000–10,000 words excluding acknowledgements, references, bibliographies, and appendices)
-
Completed authentication form
-
Updated CPD records (covering activities since Stage 1)
-
Personal Report (approx. 2,000 words)

Sponsor questionnaires
These documents are assessed first for completeness, then for suitability to progress to the interview stage.
Stage 3 – Review Interviews
If approved through desk assessment, you will be invited to attend the Review Interview, which typically includes two interviews on the same day:
Academic Review

Assesses Competence and Commitment Standards A and B
-
Must demonstrate knowledge equivalent to a Master’s degree
-
90-minute session including:
-
30-minute presentation by the candidate
-
Panel interview
-

Outcome: Either not successful, or you progress to the Professional Review Interview in the afternoon.
Professional Review
-
Assesses Competence and Commitment Standards C, D, and E
-
60-minute interview (no presentation required)
The Outcome
-
Final decision is made by the Engineering Council after document verification.

The result is either:

Successful
-
Not successful
-
There are no deferrals, referrals, or partial passes.
If unsuccessful, you may resit the Professional Review.

Accelerated options may be available for:

Eligible EU applicants under the Professional Qualifications and Services (Amendments and Miscellaneous Provisions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020
