Introducing the Chartered Civil Engineering Surveyor designation

As a valued CICES member, you've already demonstrated your commitment to the highest professional standards.

Now you can take your recognition further with the new Chartered Civil Engineering Surveyor designation.

If you meet the eligibility requirements, you'll be able to access chartered status and use the title Chartered Civil Engineering Surveyor.

Eligibility requirements for the designation

The designation is available to those who meet ALL of the following:

Membership requirements:

·       You are a Chartered Member of RICS (MRICS or FRICS), AND

·       You are a Full Member of CICES (MCInstCES or FCInstCES)

Qualification pathway: You qualified through one of these routes:

Via RICS:

·       MRICS via the Geomatics pathway, with Engineering competency at Level 3 OR

Via CICES:

·       Geospatial Engineering core with Engineering specialism OR

·       Geospatial Engineering core with Land specialism OR

·       Commercial Management core with Cost Engineering specialism OR

·       Commercial Management core with Quantity Surveying specialism OR

*Important exceptions: If you qualified with CICES via the Fellowship nomination route or the Construction Law, Photogrammetry/Remote Sensing, or Procurement Engineering specialisms, you are not automatically eligible to apply to RICS via their recognition route. You will need to undertake the RICS chartered assessment.

 

How do I access the designation?

This depends on your current membership status, please see below:

I'm already a dual member of CICES and RICS

As a dual member, you should have already received an email from us about the new designation. 

·       If you've been advised you are eligible: You can start using the designation: Chartered Civil Engineering Surveyor, immediately. Learn more here

·       If you're a dual member but you’re not yet eligible, you have the opportunity to undertake an additional assessment to access the designation.

The designation assessment process will go live very soon. To register your interest in this in the meantime, please email membership@cices.org.

I'm a CICES Member/Fellow and want to join RICS

You'll need to apply through the RICS Recognition of Professional Qualifications (RPQ) route.

Before you start:

·       Read the guidance for CICES members on the recognition route

·       Start your RICS application here

Once qualified with RICS, and if you meet the stated eligibility criteria, you will be awarded the CCES designation.

Important exception: The RICS recognition route is not available to full members of CICES who qualified via nomination or any of the following specialisms:

·       Construction Law, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Procurement Engineering

 If you qualified via one of these three areas, you will need to undertake the RICS chartered assessment.

I'm an RICS Member and want to join CICES

Subject to conditions, you can apply to CICES via our Accelerated route for RICS members. 

Once qualified with CICES, and if you meet the stated eligibility criteria, you will be awarded the CCES designation. To submit your application for the new designation, click here. 

I'm currently a CICES Graduate or Technical Member

The CCES designation is only available to Members and Fellows of both CICES and RICS.

To access this designation, you would need to:

1.     First upgrade to CICES Member grade

2.     Then obtain RICS membership (if not already MRICS or FRICS)

3.     Finally, access the designation (eligibility requirements apply)

Upgrade your CICES membership

If you’re a dual member based in the UK, you will also have access to a new Joint Membership Subscription. You do not need to hold the Chartered Civil Engineering Surveyor designation to be eligible for this.
