Technical member
Eligibility
- Completed the CICES Technical Member competencies – applicants will usually have at least 3 years' experience, although there is no set minimum.
- Successfully completed the Technical Member review interview.

- Online application form (with details of two sponsors)
- Principal sponsor’s form
- Digital photograph
- Detailed CV (750-1,000 words)
- Experience report (750-1,000 words)
- CPD records from the past year
- Completed and signed general, core and one set of specialist competencies
- Photocopies of relevant qualifications
- Application fee is £125
- Subscription fee £256.65 (March to February)
Detailed CV
Provide a full career description, including education, qualifications, and work experience. The CV will be used to assess competencies.
Experience Report
Illustrate your role in a project, highlighting skills, responsibilities, and problem-solving. Choose a project from the last 2–5 years that reflects your experience.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Submit a record of CPD activities (workshops, courses, reading, etc.) from the past year.
Sponsors
Sponsors must be Members or Fellows of CICES or equivalent recognised bodies (a list of these can be found on the website). Sponsors will verify the accuracy of your application.
Competencies
All competencies must be signed off by a supervisor or manager. They don’t need to be a CICES Member or Fellow. The competencies are statements of the knowledge, skills and experience that an applicant must have to qualify as a member.
Certificates of prior qualifications
Include a photocopy of the certificate for any prior qualification(s).
Review Interview
An online informal half-hour interview with one examiner to verify qualifications and experience.
Review Outcomes
The panel will agree the result and complete a report and decide whether to:
- Award Technical Member status
- Or if unsuccessful offer, or remain as, an Affiliate.
