Practical activity that supports visibility, progression, and participation
The CICES Women’s Network focuses on practical activity that supports women at different stages of their career, increases visibility across the profession, and contributes to long-term cultural change.
Activity is developed in line with capacity and aligned with CICES priorities, including the Golden Thread for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
Mentoring
The Network supports structured mentoring activity to provide guidance, perspective, and support for women navigating career decisions and progression.
Mentoring focuses on:
- Career development and confidence
- Honest discussion of challenges and opportunities
- Practical next steps rather than prescriptive advice
Events
Events provide opportunities to share experience, learn from others, and build professional connections.
The Network supports events that:
- Increase visibility of women across roles and career stages
- Create space for discussion and learning
- Encourage connection across the profession
Outreach in schools and colleges
Early engagement helps young people understand the range of opportunities available within construction and surveying.
The Network supports outreach activity that:
- Raises awareness of career routes
- Challenges outdated perceptions
- Connects professionals with education settings
Stories and visibility
Visibility is critical to retention and progression. The Network supports the sharing of real career stories to help others see what is possible and understand different routes through the profession.
How this activity is delivered
Activity is supported by volunteers from across the profession and developed collaboratively to ensure it remains practical, relevant, and sustainable.
Not all activity runs continuously, and some initiatives may be delivered in pilots or cohorts as capacity allows. There are many ways to engage with this activity, from participating and contributing to supporting delivery.
