A structured mentoring approach to support career progression

The CICES Women’s Network mentoring programme is designed to provide practical guidance, perspective, and support to women at different stages of their career in construction and surveying.

The mentoring programme is being launched to coincide with International Women’s Day on 8 March 2026, reflecting CICES’ ongoing commitment to supporting women to develop, progress, and remain within the profession.

This is a twelve-month mentoring programme, with clear expectations for both mentors and mentees.

Why mentoring matters

Many women experience uncertainty, stalled progression, or isolation due to limited access to guidance and informal networks. Mentoring helps clarify options, build confidence in decision-making, and support informed next steps.

Mentoring works by pairing a mentee with an experienced professional who can offer guidance, share insight, and support personal and career development over an agreed period.

The relationship usually includes regular meetings, clear goals, and open discussions focused on challenges, opportunities, and progress. It is a supportive, structured space to build confidence, develop skills, and learn from real experience.

Who is mentoring for?

Mentoring is for women at any stage of their career in civil engineering and surveying, whether they are just starting out, returning to the industry, progressing into leadership, or looking to build confidence in their current role. It offers a supportive space to gain guidance, share experiences, and develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to grow professionally.
